Pet IDMicrochipping

A lost pet is a frightening situation with often devastating consequences. According to the American Humane Association, about 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen every year. A study published by the American Veterinary Medical Association revealed dogs with microchips were 238% more likely to be returned to their families than dogs without them. For cats, the statistic is even more dramatic: those with microchips were 2,000% more likely to be returned home.

This is why the team at Stamford Veterinary Center considers microchip pet IDs a fundamental way to protect your pet and an important part of responsible pet ownership. We use the HomeAgain microchip system. Each microchip registers the animal with a unique identification number, which is filed in a database with your contact information. The contact information can be updated any time, and it is important to remember to do so whenever your information changes. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be scanned by animal control officers, at shelters, and at veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and in many foreign countries.

HomeAgain membership offers additional benefits such as proactive pet recovery and free access to ASPCA Poison Control. HomeAgain also comes with a number of services useful to pet owners, such as their National Pet Recovery Database, Lost Pet Specialists, Rapid Lost Pet Alerts, Lost Pet Medical Insurance, Travel Assistance for Found Pets, and more.

This safe, reliable, and permanent pet identification takes less than 10 seconds to implant and can save you and your pet days, weeks, or more of fear and anguish.

House Calls

To provide you the most comprehensive veterinary care possible, we also offer house calls on a case-by-case basis. Simply, there are times when it is best that you and your pet remain at home, where you both are most relaxed and comfortable, and we come to you. We offer house calls to clients in the Fairfield County area, as well as for clients who are unable to come to our veterinary clinic.

Services we can provide include wellness examinations, vaccinations, routine medical care, blood draws, and other general services that do not require diagnostic and other medical technology. Certainly the most difficult, though most important, house call we make is when a beloved pet has reached his or her last day. Being at home, surrounded by loving and familiar faces, is a comfort to you and your pet and an important aspect of our veterinary services.

ReferralsWe maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet your pet's needs. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. If your pet requires a prescription diet we do not carry, we can easily order it for you. Ensuring you have convenient and timely access to competitively priced medications is an important aspect of our veterinary practice. Refills are easy, too. Simply give us a call or click here.

Referral Services

You can depend on the veterinary team at Stamford Veterinary Center to discuss with you the best plan of action for treating your pet's illness. If the situation requires a referral to a specialist, we will discuss that option with you. We understand the prospect of bringing your pet to a much larger, unfamiliar facility can be daunting. Therefore, we try to make the process as easy and seamless as possible and will do as much research as we can to help you find the best possible referral.

Our veterinarians will inform the referral hospital of your pet's condition and health-related details. Our referral veterinarians are excellent at keeping us informed of your pet's progress so we can stay constantly updated regarding your pet's progress.

End-of-Life Planning

For many pet owners, even thinking about their pet’s final days is difficult and emotional. Our animals are a part of our family. It is this strong bond, born from years of loyal companionship, that makes this time particularly hard to bear.

We encourage you to talk with our veterinary healthcare team about these issues before they become urgent. Find out about your options, including our crematory and burial services, make key decisions ahead of time, and ask us to add this information to your pet's record. Taking the time to plan, as challenging as it may be, will lessen the pain and stress for you and your pet.

All of us at Stamford Veterinary Center will do our best to help you prepare for these important issues with the compassion and sensitivity they require. At-home euthanasia is available at Stamford Veterinary Center. Please call us at (203) 817-0440 for more information.
